Program Model

One on One Mentoring Program

The One on One Mentoring Program is a 12-month program that matches our clients with adult professionals from the community specially trained to be LifeWorks Mentors. This offers clients the advantage of having a caring adult role model with the age and experience to provide guidance in the achievement of their goals. Our staff works with each client to develop a Life Plan that includes short and long term goals in our five achievement areas: home, health, education, career, and personal development. We then offer referrals and resources tailored to her/his needs, and support the Mentor and Mentee in getting to know each other and in making those goals a reality.

Green Room Activities are open to all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) youth ages 14-24, and straight allies. Many of the young people who come to our activities also have a Mentor, but that is not required. For a calendar of upcoming activities please see our Events page.

  • Social Groups are every Wednesday evening in West Hollywood and every 4th Saturday in the Valley. Our groups are opportunities for LGBTQ youth to meet new people, learn something new, and spend time in an affirming environment where there is always free food. LifeWorks groups are Free, Confidential and Chill!

  • Workshops are offered on the last Wednesday of every month and address issues relevant to our clients and their goals. Clients learn about available resources and develop knowledge in areas such as financial literacy, career advancement, job search skills, the effects of substance use and abuse, education about sexually transmitted infections and activism. Workshop presenters are community leaders and experts in their subject area.

  • Special Activities - LifeWorks plans monthly activities for everyone to get together and have some fun! Nothing more complicated than that! This is also an opportunity to invite youth not already involved to join us and see what we’re all about. Activities range from special events such as the GLAAD Awards to outdoor events like volleyball and biking.

  • Resource Center - our office has computers (PC and Mac), books, movies, magazines, snacks, sodas, and the LifeWorks staff! Youth are welcome to visit us and take advantage of these resources. Our hours are typically 10am - 6pm, but since we are a small and active staff it's a good idea to make an appointment or call and check before dropping in.
